Favorite Song of 2007

It’s that time of year again…the local Indie station’s annual vote for the favorite song. Last year’s winners included “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley.

Out of all the choices listed here for 2007, my top 5 votes are:

  1. “Running Up That Hill” by Placebo
  2. “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles
  3. “Back In Your Head” by Tegan And Sara
  4. “Realize” by Colbie Caillat
  5. “You Know I'm No Good” by Amy Winehouse

So what are your thoughts and picks, dear readers?

I must say that I often miss listening to WBER. But I bought a lifetime subscription to Sirius and I don't see myself giving that up anytime soon.

I'm kind of disappointed with my picks from this list, but they will have to do.

1. "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo - I hate to copy but I have to agree with you here. I was obsessed with this song for at least a month. I don't dare listen to it without preparing myself to have it take over.

2. "The Underdog" by Spoon

3. "Bodysnatchers" by Radiohead

4. "Honest Goodbye" by Bad Religion

5. "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters - this one surprised me a bit. I didn't think I would like it as much. But like classic Foo it is catchy and full of energy.

Honorable mention - She wasn't on WBER's list, but "Hello" by Schuyler Fisk would make my top 5 as well.

Unfortunately, as much of a pop culturist hero as I am, music is not my thing. I mean I listen to it, but don't know it as well as others. Unless you count tv theme songs. Anyways, what I am getting at is, I have not heard of any of the songs either of you have mentioned. But then again "hide and seek" just got added to my ipod this year. So maybe I should do a post of my favorite songs from last year?

These lists are always difficult for me to evaluate because I go through cycles with songs. For example, I really liked "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles...at first. Then, like many good songs, it caught on in the general public and ended up losing its appeal to me (for several reasons). Oh well, here are my picks, despite where they may lie in my heart now:

1. "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles

2. "Realize" by Colbie Caillat (though I think she has other songs that are a lot better).

3. "Hang Me Up to Dry" by Cold War Kids...this song made me feel bad-ass when I drove around to it.

4. "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters

Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, I am familiar with most of these bands (some I love, some I hate, most fall somewhere in between), but I don't know a lot of those songs. Once I got a cd player in my car, I pretty much stopped listening to the radio. Plus, BER is hit or miss station for me, since I have to be in a certain mindset to listen to a lot of the stuff they play. So...there's my list, though I don't think it holds much weight.
